Triplex DNA in Japan

Recently, Kavit attended the 8th Bio-AFM Summer School in Kanazawa, Japan, organised by Kanazawa University’s Nano Life Science Institute (WPI-NanoLSI). The Summer School brought together 24 researchers from 11 different countries and provided them with the opportunity to image their unique samples using a particular Bio-AFM system.

During the week, Kavit worked on imaging triplex DNA using super resolution in-liquid FM-AFM (Frequency Modulated Atomic Force Microscopy), aiming to gain insights into how canonical DNA structure varies upon formation of triplex structures in DNA under superhelical stress. The week culminated in presentations by all participants, where Kavit presented his triplex results and also highlighted the therapeutic potential of Triplex Forming Oligonucleotides (TFOs) in the field of oncology. It was a great end to a wonderful week of learning new science, meeting new people, and experiencing the amazing Japanese culture!
