Earlier this month Tom attended the '“Knowledge of the Nanoscale: Developing AFM Activities for Outreach” workshop hosted by the Royce Institute in Manchester. It was a fantastic two days of talks, break-out sessions and discussion about everything outreach! Talks included a fantastic one by Edwin Hwu who described how to ‘hack’ an AFM with everyday consumer electrical including a Nintendo Wii! There was also sessions dedicated to assembling a home-made AFM from scratch (which you can see in the picture below) and then designing outreach activities which could be used in schools to inspired the next generation of AFMers!
